I will use this for family parties, and other gatherings. I am a size 16 and the XL fits perfectly. The material is thick enough that it does not need a slip. Floats around you nicely and hits mid calf so you can move and not show anything.

This dress has a beautiful pattern and bright colors. The fabric is very soft and lightweight, so it's a great choice if you want to wear it on a hot summer day to be cool without being too dressy. I found no problems with its construction, all the hems and shoulders are flat. The sleeves are roomy. I wore it a couple inches below my knees. For reference, I am 5'3\" tall, 140 lbs and curvy. According to the size chart, I got the XL, but it's a bit loose. I washed it in the washing machine on gentle/low heat, dried it and ironed it. It did not shrink at all. There were a few loose threads on the hem that were easily cut out, but honestly that seems to be the case with all dresses these days no matter what the quality or price point. This dress was exactly what I was looking for, nice, cool and loose.
